The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards – Now open for applications

Cara Credit Union continue to support local communities.

Cara Credit Union set up the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards back in 2017 with a four year commitment to award €120,000 to support community based projects initiated by organization’s within our common bond areas. We have extended the award’s past the four year mark which has seen us surpass the €120,000 figure and give a total of €150,000 back to some of the local charities, clubs, groups and societies operating in our local communities. Once again we have extended the awards to run into 2025 which will see us help local charities, clubs, groups and societies operating in our common bond areas of Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff, Causeway and Corca Dhuibhne with community based projects they are involved in.

The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards

The Community Sponsorship Awards, was set up  in honour of one of Tralee Credit Union’s, now known as Cara Credit Union, founding directors. The Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards will support community based projects initiated by organisations in our common bond areas of Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff, Causeway & Corca Dhuibhne .

Lauri Healy was one of Tralee Credit Union’s, now know as Cara Credit Union, founding directors when we were set up in 1968. Lauri was a strong believer in the credit union message and ideals. As well as being a founder Director of Tralee Credit Union where he dedicated so much time and energy, Lauri was also active in his support and development of other credit unions in Kerry and further afield. He was a director with Tralee Credit Union for more than 30 years, he served with Chapter 23 (Kerry and Mid West credit unions) for as many years and as a board member of the Irish League of Credit Unions where he helped shape the movement in its early days.

‘People Helping People’ grounded in credit unions co-operative values was at the heart of Lauri’s commitment to the movement. By working together through co-operation, people could achieve far more together than individually on their own. It is only fitting that we would let our past lay the foundations for our future and acknowledge Lauri Healy’s contribution to the credit union movement by honouring our Community Sponsorship Awards in his name.
